Do You Want More Time For the Things You Like to Do?  Then Try Meal Planning!

I truly believe that being organized isn’t just about the things in our home.  It’s also about our time.  Being organized can give you more time – more time to do the things you want to do.

One of the things that definitely gives me more time is meal planning.  I’ve talked about this before and I’m going to keep talking about it!  It doesn’t matter if you are a household of one or ten, meal planning will save you time, energy and money.  If you haven’t tried meal planning before, just start with a few dinners this week.  Or if you are a seasoned pro at meal planning dinner, try planning out breakfasts and lunches too.

Three Benefits of Meal Planning:
1.  I don’t know about you but my brain doesn’t function at its best at 6am.  It’s not a great time for me to try to figure out breakfast for my kids. But when it’s already planned out for the week, I don’t have to think about it!  It definitely makes our busy mornings run much more smoothly.

2.  Would you like to have more time to read or work on a hobby?  For me, I want more time to spend with my kids.  I get to spend more time playing a board game with them before dinner when I have planned and prepped.  Instead of worrying about “what are we going to have for dinner tonight?”, I can spend that energy on what I really want to do.

3.  When I plan, I know exactly what I need from the store.  I can plan our meals around the ingredients I have and then fill in at the grocery store.  This results in less trips to the store throughout the week and less money spent!

You can use a notebook you already have or a meal planning pad with the days of the week pre-printed on it.  Borrow cookbooks from the library or look at Pinterest for some meal inspiration.  I have a lot of great recipes saved on my The Styled Sort Pinterest page that you can check out.  Once you have chosen your meals, make your grocery list.  It may take a few weeks to get into the routine of meal planning (the more you do it, the easier it gets!).  But once you do, you will be amazed at how much time you will have to do the things you really want to do!
